Confession Time-- For many years I hated Mother's Day because I wasn't one. Then I became one and it turned out that I wasn't going to have the typical mother experience nor be a mother again. It was all I could do to attend church and take the flowers they handed out.
Well, I guess one day my wise mother stepped in and told me something that changed my life and my way of thinking. She told me that Mother's Day was not about me and weather I was a mother or not. It was a day to honor my mother and how wonderful she is. I am so grateful to her for saying that. It really turned me around.
Some times God steps in and gives you alternatives. He helps fill in the holes with other things. These following notes were written by two students of mine. As far as I am concerned they are just as good as Mother's Day cards from my children.
Happy Mother's Day and thanks for all you do. I appreciate it.
PS. I know I chose to be Daniel's mother and even though it has been hard, I am glad I chose him.

I know what you mean. I will never be a traditional mother, (the time has passed for that) but I do have two step children who I love. And 2 nieces and 1 nephew that I helped take care of during their first couple of years on this earth. I do feel sad this time of year for all that is pasted and can't be changed. Like the time to have my own children and my Mother and Grandmother's who have passed on.
But I do take this day every year to wish all the mother's out there a Happy Mother's day. They more than deserve it.

Aw, what a beautiful and heart felt post, Karen! This blessed me. Thank you for sharing this.
Your attitude about life continues to amaze me.
If you hadn't told me you chose Daniel, I would still know it. I was talking to a friend today about special spirits and how only the very choice mothers get to have them.
Those notes are heartwarming, Karen, and I always love the way you look at life.
Thanks for sharing yourself with all of us. And Happy Mother's Day.
=)
It must feel wonderful to have your students love you so much.
My mom has been gone for 29 years. I wish I could have shared more Mother's Days with her. Have a beautiful day. ((HUGS))

Oh Karen ...right on!
You expressed my sentiments as well with this honest post on Mother's Day. I know what you mean about teaching. Although this is new for me, I'm loving those little children. They are a blessing from God.
Sending you a blog hug today,
