Happiness Is Teaching First Grade

I made a big change this year at work.  I went from teaching 2nd grade for many years to teaching 1st grade.  I was very nervous at first but it has turned out to be wonderful.  I really do enjoy it.  The kids are so sweet.  They can humble you in seconds or make you feel like the greatest thing since sliced bread the next.  Let me explain.

Humble- Mrs. Mortensen's hair is gray and tan.
I like the bottom color of your hair.
Don't you ever brush your hair?
              You have an eye burger.
What is wrong with your lip?  You have a red bump on it.

Fantastic- I love you.
Can you be my second mom?
                 Many hugs all day long.
                 Lots of cute notes.
Running to me in bunches to hold my hand when I pick them up from the playground.
Wanting to sit by me in the front of the room.
                  I can read now.

Anyway, you get the picture.  Even with my flaws, they still love me and that is good for my soul.

I was suppose to teach 1st Grade this year, then with our move I was going to be a mom, but got offered a position as a Grade 2 teacher. Now I'm missing the Grade 1s I never had....

Awww, so glad it makes you happy...I'm NOT a primary teacher by any means but always admire those that do. I love my 3-5 kids and gosh, they say some of the same things your kiddoes do :)

Their honesty is refreshing, even though it's kinda brutal. ;)

The eye burger made me laugh. Out loud. You gotta love the innocence of children.

I worked for many years in the school nurse's office at an elementary school and a jr. high. Guess which one is best? Love the sweetness of first graders too. Mimi

Of course they love you. I would love for my child to be in your class, if I had one.

Kids are so honest. They speak without thinking it through and I love that about them. I can understand the difficulty it must have been for you to change to a different grade level. Many of the teachers I know tend to enjoy sticking with a specific grade and don't enjoy change. So glad to read how you embraced it.

I think we both are the recipient of 'many children'. How God has blessed us abundantly in His way.

Blessings and love,
Debbie
