Just Hit Me Over The Head With A 2 x 4

Yesterday I found this incredible video over at NYC Island Gal's blog. It had a tremendous impact on me. I would like to share that with you now.

After recovering from the blow to my head, I starting have a conversation with myself. Like what was I thinking ect. I am not living my life for anyone but God. This life is my assignment to show him what I am made of. To show him that I can do it. This is my test. My test alone.

This started me thinking about a track meet. In a track meet they have a race with hurdles. Each runner is assigned to his or her own lane. They must stay in that lane and not go over to another one. There are these hurdles placed along the way that they must jump over. They must jump over their hurdle and not someone elses. When they have jumped over all the hurdles then they run to the finish line.

Isn't this a lot like life? We are assigned a life. We must live our life and no one elses. We have hurdles placed in our way that are just for us. We can't go get someone elses and they can't come and get ours. We must stay in our life and work it through until we reach the finish line.

It sounds so simple and yet it's so true!! Sometimes it takes such an elementary example to put our whole life into perspective, right?! thanks for the reminder today : )

What an inspiring post, K! Thank you!

What really spoke to me was the part about not expecting our kids to acknowledge that we got up at 4 am to get the turkey ready and press the linens, because the bigger picture is that we've created a place that they want to bring their friends home to: "you're going to love it there."

Sometimes I start feeling sorry for myself because no one notices all the "detail" work I do around the house to keep it clean and orderly and welcoming. But that clip was a great encouragement. I'm a builder working on a project for God!

That was a powerful video and really put some things into perspective for me. So very true. If we could all just always remember that we are working for Him and Him alone. I will think of that the next time I'm loading/unloading the dishwasher for the 20th time in one week, mopping the floor yet again or picking up all the cups, dirty clothes and shoes left strewn all over the house. Proud to be a new follower!

This clip gives a very meaningful and powerful message. If you provide "service" hoping every minute of every day that someone will notice and heap praises upon you for so doing, then your life will be a big disappointment. This video made me think of my mother who does nothing but serve others continually and expects nothing in return. Hopefully she is shown the gratitude deserved, but the point is that she does not expect it. But like the video says - "God knows". I am sure this is true. And yes, my mother's house is a place where people love to come.

Thank you to my sweet wife for posting this. You are the greatest.

I love this, and I agree with it, too...with one caveat. What I've noticed, as the parent of adult children (aged 28 to 35), is that they eventually DO see. As they move out into the world and out of the safety of your nest, they not only see who you are and what you've done, but they appreciate and thank you for it.

Eventually, they DO see.

=)

Wise words - and not ever so easy as it would sound, right?

Karen, I really like your analogy, and definitely agree with you. We are given a life from God...and then He blesses us with gifts that help us to live it. It's up to us whether to utilize His gifts, and hopefully, we can lead others to Him in the process.

What a wonderful analogy. I think that sometimes we don't quite jump high enough to make it over a hurdle and knock it over, but we have to get up and keep going to the finish. It can be hard, yet rewarding.

That really does put things into perspective, doesn't it. The video reminds me of my mom. She was always quietly doing good, every day of her life.
